As much as I love a good rumor, even I couldn’t co-sign the fake baby bump allegations that have dogged Beyoncé Knowles pretty much ever since she announced her pregnancy during the MTV Video Music Awards in August. The rumor mill went into overdrive in October when the “Countdown” singer’s belly appeared to have collapsed during an interview on an Australian talk show. Conspiracy theories ranging from Beyoncé using a mystery surrogate to conserve her figure, to a secret plan by she and Jay-Z to adopt and later play it off like they gave birth have run amok. Nevertheless, the music superstar has tried to remain calm in the midst of all the innuendos, suspicions, and speculations. She told Katie Couric in an interview for 20/20 that aired last night:

But although she hasn’t let the rumors get to her, the former Destiny’s Child frontwoman admitted the same can’t be said about Mama (Tina) Knowles. She said: As for Jay, who’s long rumored to have wanted to be a father, Beyoncé basically describes him as endlessly excited about their impending bundle of joy. She told Katie: I hope people lay off this woman so she can have her baby in peace. There’s nothing worse than turning what is supposed to be the most joyous and blessed time in a person’s life into something sordid and scandalous.
